Aleta and I got to see the movie "La La Land" one day before the film seemed to win, and then really didn't win, the Oscar for best picture. Man that whole gaffe at the end of the Oscar awards should become a whole documentary film of its own somewhere in the future. Anyway, one of the main characters in "La La Land" made this incredible off-hand observation about life in Hollywood that has stuck with me. He observed: "Hollywood worships everything, and values nothing." I think Sebastian's insight actually fits into the wider North American culture in general and doesn't just describe Hollywood. We respond with so much of what we are to what the latest "hot" person or thing is saying or doing, while being very unclear about what we truly value. Great insight from a fun film.
