"If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! " 2 Cor. 5: 17 I've been having a lot of fun meeting with a really cool group of empty-nesters in my home church. Together we've been working through the ramifications of that verse - when we put our trust in Jesus Christ we literally become new creations in God's eyes. In the process I've asked each person in the group to write, and then share, their new-creation story. After each one has shared I've taken the time to publicly bless each person and tell them how I observe God at work in their lives and how I see the person of Jesus Christ in them. As I've done this over the course of the last few weeks it has struck me that being blessed, and built up by others, is so very rare. Sadly it just isn't very unusual to be cut down and minimized by others. However, it's all too rare to hear words that bless us and encourage us. You can tell this is the case because every time I've been able to bless each wonderful person you can tell they have entered into the experience of an unusual holy moment. So here's what I'm thinking. Blessings shouldn't be as rare as they are. Take a moment today to give someone a blessing. Describe to them how you see the goodness of God in them and through them. The smile that will appear on their face or the tear that will stream down their cheek will make your day as much, if not more, than you might make their day!
