A Time To Build Up

For 20 years I've been putting this off. When Aleta and I moved into our house, it had a shared neighbor fence that was about 3 years old. It was done on the cheap by the homeowner before us who - lets just put it bluntly - should not have taken on the project. The fence wasn't straight. The boards were loosely tacked together, and within a few years the thing started falling apart. Over the years, I just kept patching the fence together, putting a few screws here, and a piece of plywood there. When we actually had storms, and sections would come down, I would buy a few sticks of lumber to piece it all back together and prop the thing up. I just kept putting off the inevitable need to rebuild the whole thing. Finally today we're tearing down the whole mess of a fence and rebuilding it!As I'm watching the guys do their thing (I actually make enough money now that I can pay others to the job) that fence reminds me of me at times. Just like that wobbly fence, there are areas of my life that I just keep putting off, patching it together, waiting for some other time to deal with what I inevitably really need to address. But a day does arrive when you just have to tear it all down and start again. As Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 3:1 & 3 "There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven . . . A time to tear down and a time to build up." Here's to a season for tearing down and building back up!
