Michael Howard took over the keys to the old "Lighthouse Church" building as a care-taker of the facility. He had a vision for house churches scattered in a very viral way all throughout the community. He didn't have a vision that included a building, and especially not a vision for church maintenance. So in addition to cutting hair to make a living as a pastor, he also added janitor and maintenance man to his list of things to do. It wasn't the greatest fit really. His church body, small and tight-knit community that it was, rattled around in a big building. But they humbly worshiped there on Saturday nights and then let the building be used as a community hub by other groups. Michael rented the space to a local theater group who needed a place for their productions. He also rented it out on Sunday night to Chuckk Gerwig and the Elevation church gang for their Sunday evening worship. He did everything he could to take care of the building he'd been given and honor what God had given him to do. It really wasn't easy. Have you ever been in a situation where you know God's asked you to be faithful to something and that something is the wrong environment for the vision you know God has given you to pursue? That's what it felt like for Michael. He had a building. That was cool but it wasn't the right environment for the vision God had given him. As a result the building wasn't an easy thing to handle, it felt burdensome and heavy rather than a fit for his mission. So Michael began praying, "God what is the deal with this building. What's your plan here?" And God gave Michael a crazy idea . . .
