Who can find a noble wife? Well I can tell you that did! I'm still thinking about Old Trucks and Grace, and I'm still blown away by the kind of woman God allowed me to marry. Aleta is truly a "Proverbs 31 Woman." Church people always talk about a P31-Woman as the gold standard for what a godly man would want in a wife. I never thought myself completely worthy of the woman who is described in Proverbs 31, but this week, with all of the surprises and gracious acts of love given to me by my wife - I realize I actually married a P31-Woman. Just check this out. P31 describes the most amazing wife, along with my parenthetical additions about Aleta:A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies (or in our case - a huge bank account) Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. (Ain't that the truth!) She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. (Well maybe she doesn't exactly deal in wool, flax and merchant ships, but man, Aleta knows how to make the deal and close the deal!) She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls. (Okay, Aleta's not exactly a morning person, but she gets it all done for her family and her servant girls - - just kidding about the servant girls) She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. (In Aleta's case she patiently saves and saves and stays focused until, out of her earnings, she can buy me an old GMC truck with cold hard cash - way better than a vineyard in my humble opinion) She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. (My wife is strong enough that you do not ever want to get in her way when she is in "go mode"!) . . . She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. (My wife's dignity is beautiful and I've always loved her "bring it on" attitude about the future) She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. (Hundreds of lives, beyond the reach of her own family, have been touched by her wisdom and love) She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” (That is exactly how I and my children would describe Aleta Lewis) Proverbs 31 (with my additions)In addition to celebrating a milestone birthday this week, I celebrate my P31 wife. Women like her actually do exist! I cannot believe I get to know her let alone be married to her. Thank you God!
