The third truth God taught me during my time of extended sabbath comes from Psalm 89:11 which boldly declares, “The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all it contains, You have founded them.” NASB When we slow down, we inevitably realize we don’t really own anything. We even discover how much our “possessions” own us more than we own them. It becomes very clear that our pursuit of more stuff is our attempt to feel safer and more comfortable behind a mountain of things. Of course we don’t really own anything, and of course “you can’t take it with you,” but our security doesn’t rest in our stuff, our savings, or our property values. In renewal we remember and become more intimately acquainted with a heavenly Father who is our true source of security – the one who owns the entire universe, and yet is so very willing to share every good and perfect gift with us both now and forever. We don't have to own anything to be safe or even content.
