When God ushers us into a time of Sabbath, He ushers us into a time where we are waiting on Him. We must wait for what He will do in us, we must wait for what He will accomplish, and we must wait for Him to fulfill His promises rather than helping Him make the promises happen. When we wait on God, we are thrust into deep ambiguity about how the outcomes we most desire will come about. In the ambiguity we discover how little we really control the outcomes, and so we flail to somehow speed up or shape those outcomes. It's a waste of our energy and time. We cannot make God’s promises happen, and –truth be told- we really don’t possess perfect sway over the outcome of much of anything in our lives. How has it worked out for you when you've tried to make God's promises happen?
